Alia grew up on the streets of Piata, daughter of a well-to-do merchant family, she enjoyed a relatively safe and secure life as a commoner. She’s a third generation Half-Elf and has had the pleasure of meeting her elven great grandmother a few times. She developed a love of singing and a strong sense of national pride and her parents thought they’d send her off to bardic college when she grew old enough.
Alia went on to surprise her parents when she instead volunteered for the Riddel army when she became of age. Despite her lack of training, Alia seemed to have an knack for combat, confounding her superiors and frustrating her fellow recruits who were clearly stronger and better trained than her.
Until her graduation she hid the secret to her edge in combat from her superiors – she was born with latent Psionic powers that were slowly manifesting in her, and though she didn’t fully understand what they were, she quickly realized that they were only at their fullest when she fought. It was this realization that drove the young woman to leave the notion of Bardic college behind, and instead follow the path of the warrior.
For three years she served as a squad commander in the Riddel army, participating in border skirmishes against the Acktavians, fighting off Orc and Goblin assaults, and in one case escorting a ViP through Moradin’s Pass.
However, one year ago, Alia’s unit encountered a strange event: a small farming community on her patrol called Borrowridge was corrupted and assaulted by Foulspawn. She and her unit stalwartly lead the assault to defend the few survivors from the aberrant corruption, and during this battle Alia’s Psionic powers erupted. She knew why she had these gifts now: to defend her people from the corrupting touch of the Far Realm.
After this battle she and her unit were recognized within Piata as heroes for bravely confronting such a powerful foe and saving what lives they could. She earned the silver-leaf of Valor, one of the highest honors a lowly solider can earn. She was also Knighted. With it, she also earned an opportunity: her superior officers offered her a chance to help the Vanguard Foundation to join their struggle to save the Dry March. Her superior officers agreed that it was important that Riddel have a strong presence in this effort, and Alia had proven her loyalty to the crown and the people in her charge. Alia honorably accepted, and now serves as fearless warrior at Guardian’s Peak.
Alia is proud and confident, almost to a fault, though she doesn’t try to force her opinions on others. To her, the idea that Riddel is the greatest nation in Touria or that Battleminds make for the best warriors, are “truths” that she doesn’t expect most people to understand. Alia believes that with enough hard work and dedication she can succeed at anything. She relies on this belief anytime she is faced with fear or setback, rather than praying to a god or power source for guidance.
